Robinson R-22<\/h2>\n

Robinson R-22 Beta is a two-seater traditional helicopter for school and tourism with an alternative engine which feeds, through a transmission, the main rotor; the tail rotor is moved by a transmission and a 90 degree gearbox. The construction is traditional too; the helicopter is made-up mainly of aluminium alloys for the semi-monocoque structures and <\/span>of<\/u><\/span> steel for the tubular structures.<\/span><\/p>\n

The flight controls consist of a cyclic control stick, a lever control for the collective pitch, where the controls of the motor throttle are inserted, and anti-torque pedals. R22 is equipped with dual controls; the cyclic pitch control, which is made of a vertical bar with a transversal stick, may look different from those controls installed on other helicopters, while it can be manoeuvred in the same way because the grip is hinged on the central pivot. <\/span><\/p>\n

The empty weight for a standard equipment is about 399 kg and the take-off weight is 622 kg. Consequently, the useful load is about 223 kg. The main rotor with two blades has two flapping hinges symmetrically attached to the suspended hub which, in turn, is connected to the driveshaft through a flapping hinge. <\/span><\/p>\n

This rotor, typical of Robinson helicopters, has three flapping hinges and is called \u201cthree hinge rotor system\u201d. The blades are geometrically twisted with constant chord. The tail rotor has two blades and is of suspended type with flapping hinge and its blades, which are not twisted, have constant chord. The engine transmits its motion to the main rotor through two double V-belts, which powers up a clutch connected to a bevel gear transmission. <\/span><\/p>\n

The transmission of the tail rotor occurs through a shaft and a bevel gear box. The alternative engine is the Lycoming 0-320 B2C or Lyocoming 0-360-J2A opposed four-cylinder engine, fueled carburetor, cooling system by air suction. The power is of 160 HP derated, for the use on this machine, to 124 HP. <\/span><\/p>\n
